Review- Revlon ColorStay vs. Clinique SuperFit Foundations
I was in need of a new foundation that I could wear well during the hot summer months. After extensive research, I had decided to try the Revlon ColorStay Foundation in Warm Golden for Combination/Oily Skin. The color was a perfect match. I loved the foundation for the following reasons:
a. it is affordable and very accessible- it is sold in drugstores, and large retail stores, often on sale =) runs around $14 per ounce
b. it is very buildable- one layer gives you medium coverage, and two gives you full coverage. I could even double this up as a facial concealer for my trouble spots (aka, acne scars)! Amazing matte finish too.
c. it really does stay!!!! Even through humidity, it held up beautifully! I didn't have any problems with it transferring on to my clothes either, which is a huge plus.
d. it photographs beautifully- no weird reflections since it has a negligible spf of 6 (don't get me wrong, I definitely wear spf during the day, this point is just important for when I go out at night and know I will be taking pics)
THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT IT BROKE ME OUT =( !!!! And it wasn't just a pimple; I got about 10 new pimples that looked like welts every time I wore this foundation!
The only other thing that annoyed me about this product is that it doesn't come with a pump, which really sucks because it gives way for more germs to come in contact with the product. Besides these two defects, I didn't find it did much to control my oil---but at least it didn't add anymore oil on my face since it is oil-free.
So I found myself in need of a new foundation that would provide all of the benefits that the Revlon ColorStay provided me, but without the breakouts....which led me to Clinique's SuperFit Foundation. It honestly does provide all of the benefits that the ColorStay provides except for two things: it is not available everywhere except for department stores and Ulta, and it is a bit pricier...but still much more affordable than most other department store foundations- it runs about $21 per ounce (don't let the picture fool you- both of the products come in 1 ounce bottles- the Revlon bottle is just taller, while the Clinique bottle is wider).
Like the Revlon ColorStay, this foundation is humidity resistant, and lasts up to eight hours...it really does stay!!!! I even fell accidentally asleep with this on, and it didn't even transfer on to my pillow! I have no problems what so ever with it transferring on to my clothes either =). The coverage is also buildable- 1 layer gives me medium coverage, 2 gives me full- love that it can conceal my acne scars!
I really lucked out with this purchase, because the Clinique Consultant who attended me was the Regional Manager- she knew her stuff well! She matched me to the color Honey, which honestly looks exactly like my skin...after she tested a quick swipe on my chin, she couldn't even find where she had placed it- the foundation fit me that well! And it gives a matte finish, just how I like it. Since it does not contain Spf, it photographs very well. When I wear this foundation, I get tons of compliments which of course is an extra incentive!
As for oil control, it keeps me shine free for about 5 hours- after that I do need to touch up with a bit of powder, but I don't mind- that's the longest I've ever been able to stay matte with a foundation =). The best part is that it DOES NOT BREAK ME OUT!!!!!
The bottle comes in a squeeze tube which is much more hygienic than the Revlon ColorStay bottle- the only thing is that the bottle is not transparent so you can't really tell just by looking at the bottle when you are about to run out of it, but if you shake the bottle you can obviously tell how much product is still in it.
Overall, this foundation has become an absolute staple for me. I wear it when I know that I will be taking pictures, and when I know that I will be in humid areas (clubbing, anyone?). I use it right after I use the Clinique 3-Step System for combination/oily skin (system #3). During the day, I like to top it off with Physician's Formula Healthy Wear Spf 50 Powder Foundation (which is really NOT a foundation at all...it is really just pressed powder!) and if I'm wearing it out at night (pictures!) I top it off with Clinique's loose powder in Invisible Blend and it lasts all night! I might try it out with the Dream Matte Pressed powder too..I hear very good things about that powder...anyway, for me, the Clinique SuperFit wins....paying a couple extra dollars is soo worth not getting the breakouts!!!
Hope this helped! See you in my next post!
